Formally trained in Japanese, biology, and culinary arts, I am a writer and photographer with an eye for wild landscapes and intimate natural details. Impressions created while conducting fieldwork across North America and traveling to five continents led me to believe that we live in a world few see. We rush through life on the way to somewhere else, rarely noticing the delicacies of the everyday. I want others to grasp the beauty of the intricate ecological connections that surround us. To that end, I aspire to create images of the world, both written and photographic, that represent the untrammeled spaces without hyperbole.

In the age of information, we rarely travel without researching destinations and activities. Too few meander, wander, get lost, or serendipitously find joy and beauty. Photos, too, have become high contrast, over-saturated, unreal, and surreal. Are we disappointed by the real landscape when it does not present itself in stunning colors, with perfect light, cloudless skies, and wildflowers always in bloom? Manipulating images prevents us from seeing the grandeur of the natural world and the tenacity of ecosystems that continue to function despite human disruption. The systems compensate but are diminished. Unaware of the wild intangibles, we commit the environment to our unattainable expectations and demand that it provide services for which we neither ask permission nor compensate.
